Supposing I said there was a planet without schools or teachers, study was unknown, and yet the inhabitants - doing nothing but living and walking about - came to know all things, to carry in their minds the whole of learning: would you not think I was romancing? Well, just this, which seems so fanciful as to be nothing but the invention of a fertile imagination, is a reality. It is the child's way of learning. This is the path he follows. He learns everything without knowing he is learning it, and in doing so passes little from the unconscious to the conscious, treading always in the paths of joy and love.
Dr. Maria Montessori.
According to Dr. Maria Montessori, a proper education ensures that our children “will be witnesses to the unfolding of the human soul and to the rising of a New Man who will not be a victim of events, but will have the clarity of vision to direct and shape the future of human society.”
Our programmes at these levels are Montessori centric and we try to build on the basis laid during the Playgroup years. Here, emphasis is attached to the child’s choice, practical work, care of others and the environment and above all, high levels of concentration thereby making the child discover a unique and individual way to contribute.
Toddler Bay classrooms are well-equipped with a complete range of Montessori material of the highest standard. Individual presentations are encouraged and outings are included for the intellectual, cultural, social and physical needs of the children. Parental interest and involvement is encouraged.
In keeping with the changing times and modern approaches to education, we have included the tenets of Howard Gardener’s Multiple Intelligence Theory in our curriculum. This is to ensure that the individual interests and talents of the child are identified at an early age and that we can encourage him/her to nurture these abilities in a natural environment.
